Lip Reduction Surgery Procedure
Lip reduction is performed under local anesthesia by Dr. Amin Yousaf. Usually it is a one hour surgical procedure but can take more or less time depends upon patient to patient. Lip is infiltrated with local anesthesia containg xylocaine and adrenaline. After waiting for 5 to 7 mints, incision is given at junction of wet and dry mucosa and ellipse of tissue is removed.
Techniques of Lip Reduction Surgery
Multiple techniques are available for lip reduction like bikini lip reduction or brazelian lip reduction. We usually perform bikini lip reduction technique at our clinic in Lahore, Pakistan. Bikini lip reduction consists of excision of a tissue from upper lip called ‘bikini top’ (two cups and a middle strap and a ‘bikini bottom’ (a triangle) from the lower lip. The post operative results and the patient satisfaction have been very satisfactory.
Bikini lip reduction is excellent technique, it decrease the overall volume of lip, restore the soft curving outlines of the lips (M, M′ and W) and maintain the ideal volume relationship between the lips, with the lower lip having a moderately larger volume than that of upper lip.
Bleeding is minimal and controlled with electrocautery, lip is closed by absorbable stitches so no need of stich removal. After surgery dressing is applied and patient is allowed to go home within half an hour and after surgery pain killer and antibiotic is advised.
