The three most common causes of prominent ear are the following and are usually present in combination.

Underdeveloped Antihelicat Fold

Steps of 1st Surgery (Operation Time: 6-7 Hours)

1. Dr. Amin Yousaf would make a template for your abnormal ear by matching it with a normal ear.
2. These markings are traced over the new ear site and marked with a permanent marker.
3. After anesthesia, the first incision is given over the ribs, and cartilage is harvested.
4. The framework of the new ear is created by shaping these cartilages into a proper ear.
5. A pocket is created over the new ear site, slightly larger than the cartilage framework.
6. The framework is placed, and suction is applied.

2nd Stage of Surgery

Second-stage surgery is performed 3 to 6 months after the first surgery. It is a 2 to 3-hour procedure and consists of the following steps:

1. Rib is harvested from the subcutaneous pocket placed during the initial operation.
2. An incision is given over the scalp area.
3. Fascia is harvested (TP fascia).
4. The framework is elevated, and the rib block is placed and fixed behind it.
5. It is then covered with fascia followed by a skin graft.
